There are a lot of reasons to have me paint a mural or  a decorative motif for you……..

untitled 2.jpg

  • To add architectural interest
  • To establish a sense of place
  • To disguise an eyesore
  • To embellish an area
  • To welcome a new baby
  • To delight a child
  • To help a teenager LOVE their room
  • To delight yourself
  • To take your spouse away from it all
  • To give yourself something to look at when you are sitting on the throne
  • Just because you want to

Many people associate murals with restaurants or other public venues. In reality, I have done far more murals in private homes than I have in public areas. There are  a variety of reasons people choose to have murals or decorative elements painted in their homes.
Often it is to embellish a dining room or  playroom; these areas are always popular getting the most bang for the buck so to speak. But you have no idea, how many homes have an architectural flaw that painting a mural or motif can correct much more economically than construction.

Another reason people will choose to have a mural or motif painted is a sense of play. dog_biscuits.jpg

Check out the  trompe l’oeil dog biscuits painted on the floor. Rufus, the golden retrieve   insisted   on carrying his treats to this particular spot. Yes he did scrape at these fake ones for a minute.

And then the  harried wife who felt she spent more time in the laundry room than anywhere else,We painted her a good old  clothesline to put a smile on her face.

But my all time favorite mural was a basement bathroom I painted for an 80 year old birthday boy; a gift from his wife.
He had a clock repair business in the basement of his home. He  refused to put up     sheetrock walls which would enclose the pipes. Pipes break and then how do you get to them if they are inside of some wall?

This drove his wife to distraction. Often clients used those facilities….I’ve included a photo of before.

He liked the sea and used to sail, he also was a fan of  spy mysteries and you never saw him without a pipe and cap.
So I gave him an old submarine. I had great fun incorporating all this in the humble space with plastic pipes and cement walls.

How do you like my solution to hanging the toilet paper?

Another  one of my favorite murals was fashioned after Henri Rosseau’s jungle scenes ; my clients choice.
She had an elaborate home gym that she never used because it felt too claustrophobic. I chose several of Rosseau’s paintings and married them together around  all four walls.

Then we got personal; my client’s daughter became  Rossaeu’s  woman in the dream. Her son is chinning between two trees, we had to paint in the family pets and even the maid got into the mural, wearing  her characteristic kaftan.

I can design a motif or create an idea for you  or  I can teach you  to paint your own.     A favorite is for me to supervise children painting their own  room.  AFTER ALL........ I taught ART for a lot of years in public schools ..........THE SKY IS THE LIMIT........
